Emergency Notification Opt In

In our continued effort to improve the safety of citizens in the Owensboro and Daviess County area, Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch 9-1-1, is pleased to announce you may now register your cellular and/or VoIP phone number(s) for the purpose of receiving emergency notifications. This system, will be used by emergency response personnel to notify those homes and businesses at risk with information on the event and/or actions (such as evacuation) we are asking them to take. The system is able to contact landline telephones whether listed or unlisted through a database we have on file.

Examples of Emergency Notifications may be:

  • Evacuation notices due to emergency situations, such as lost child in your neighborhood, active crime that may affect your safety, and environmental hazards.
  • Notifications of dangerous situations in your area, such as an environmental hazard, law enforcement investigation or other instance where you may be instructed to remain in your home.

If you have a landline phone, either residential or business, your phone number has automatically been entered into the system and is capable of receiving an emergency notification. If you have moved or received a new phone number within the last ten (10) months, you will need to submit your landline number through the registration process.

If you have a Voice over IP (VoIP) or cellular telephone and would like to be notified over that device, you must register those telephone numbers for use by the system.

Keep in mind once you register your phone number, if Centralized Dispatch sends out an emergency message, you will receive the notification even if you are NOT in the affected area at the time. The telephone number you register will be called only when the address it is associated with is impacted by a disaster or emergency.

You can edit or remove your cellular or VoIP number from the system at any time. Be aware that by doing so, you will no longer receive emergency notifications at that phone number.

If you change your cellular/VoIP phone number please remove the old phone number and register the new number. If you forget your secret question/answer contact CityAction to have your registration reset.

Caution: While the city's mass notification system is considered effective and efficient, you should not wait for or rely exclusively on a mass notification system call for evacuation or other emergency directives. If you think you are in danger, you should evacuate or take other appropriate measures immediately.
