The City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center is bringing collegiate hockey to Owensboro!

On Saturday, October 10, the University of Kentucky Men’s Ice Hockey team will take on Butler University. The teams will take to the ice at 1 p.m. for warmups, followed by the game shortly after. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free.

UK hockey has a rich 32-year history of hockey in the Bluegrass State. The team began in 1983 when the Lexington Ice Center opened. With an arena finally in Lexington, inaugural general manager Mark Shupe saw the opportunity for a collegiate hockey team. UK is currently ranked 12 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division II, South East.

This is the first year of reinstatement for the Butler program, who won the ACHA Division III title in 2000. The team fell on hard times a few years after their national championship, but has been reinstated for the 2015-2016 season. The club will once again be competing in ACHA Division III and has plans to join the Indiana Club Hockey Conference next season.
