Owensboro Parks & Recreation is starting the Little Spikers Youth Instructional Volleyball League.  The League will get kids active and playing volleyball at a younger age.  It will acquaint them with the sport, teach fundamentals and develop volleyball basic skills.

Little Spikers is offering two age groups 3rd and 4th grade and then 5th and 6th grade and is accepting registration for male and female participants. It will start February 9 and run through March 12. The players will practice every Thursday and put what they have learned into action on Sundays during their scheduled match. Fee per player to participate is $70.

“In today’s society, sport is the number one way for kids to develop physically, emotionally and socially.  Currently volleyball is the second largest high school sport behind track in the nation.  This program will be a great opportunity to be introduced to this growing sport,” stated Steve Howard, Audubon Volleyball Association and College View Middle School Volleyball Coach.

Registration is taking place now at the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Administrative Center. You can register your child by calling 270-687-8700 or by walk-in at 1530 McJohnson Avenue, across the parking lot from Combest Swimming Pool. Walk-In hours are from 8:00 am to Noon and 1:00 – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  The registration deadline is Monday, February 3.
