Records Information

Traffic Collision Report

To obtain a copy of a traffic collision report, you may request it through the mail or in person at our Records Unit windows located at the Owensboro Police Department Headquarters, 222 E 9th Street, Owensboro, Kentucky.

For Traffic Collision Reports, please provide:

  • Name of Driver/Owner
  • Location of Collision
  • Date of Collision
  • Having the Report Number is very helpful

Collision reports are usually available 2 to 8 working days after the accident. There is a $1.50 fee for the accident report if requested through the mail or if picked up in person. Call (270)687-8841 for further assistance. We cannot release information about the accident over the telephone.

When requesting by mail, include the fee of $1.50 per report and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. (Average report is 4-6 pages or more).

Commonwealth of Kentucky Civilian Traffic Collision Report

When applicable, to obtain a Civilian Traffic Collision Report Form, the OPD Records Unit will provide a copy.

Pursuant to Kentucky Revised Statute   189.635 (2);    Any person operating a vehicle on the highways of this state who is involved in an accident resulting in fatal or non-fatal personal injury to any person or damage to the vehicle rendering the vehicle inoperable shall be required to immediately notify a law enforcement officer having jurisdiction. In the event the operator fails to notify or is incapable of notifying a law enforcement officer having jurisdiction, such responsibility shall rest with the owner of the vehicle or any occupant of the vehicle at the time of the accident. A law enforcement officer having jurisdiction shall investigate the accident and file a written report of the accident with his law enforcement agency.

Pursuant to Kentucky Revised Statute   189.635 (4);    Any person operating a vehicle on the highways of this state who is involved in an accident resulting in any property damage exceeding five hundred ($500) in which an investigation is not conducted by a law enforcement officer shall file a written report of the accident with the Department of State Police within (10) days of occurrence of the accident upon forms provided by this department.

Civilian Traffic Collision Report

Do not complete this report if the traffic collision was investigated by a police officer.

Offense/Incident Report

An offense/incident is considered any of the following: Breaking into a vehicle, burglary, identity theft, lost property, assault, auto theft, missing persons, vandalism, etc. To obtain a copy of an offense/incident report, you may request it through the mail or in person at our Records Unit window located at the Owensboro Police Department Headquarters, 222 E 9th Street, Owensboro, Kentucky.

For offense/incident reports, please provide the following:

  • Name of the complainant
  • Date of the offense/incident
  • Location where the offense/incident occurred
  • Having the Report Number is very helpful

There is a fee of $1.50 per report when requesting reports in person or by mail. Call (270)687-8842 for further assistance. We cannot release information about the offense over the telephone. Only the first page is available for release. These reports contain a brief summary of the offense/incident, the complainant’s name (excluding juveniles) and address and the names of the first investigating Officers. Suspect information is not listed. The full report may or may not be available for public release, depending on case status. Each request will be evaluated as it comes to us.

If you request a report by mail, include the fee of $1.50 per report and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. (Average report size is 1 page) Allow three business days for processing.

Arrest

To obtain a copy of an arrest report, you may request it through the mail or in person at our Records Unit windows located at the Owensboro Police Department Headquarters,

222 E 9th Street, Owensboro, Kentucky

You must provide:

  • The name of the person arrested, date of birth, sex, race
  • The date of the arrest.

Some restrictions do apply to the release of the arrest report. Call (270)687-8841 for further assistance. We cannot release information about the arrest report over the telephone. Only the first page is available for release.

To obtain specialized information from records being maintained by this Department, submit a written request. You may file the request in person or mail it to Records Unit, 222 E 9th Street, Owensboro, Kentucky  42303.
