Police Officer (Lateral Transfers)
This is a Full-Time position, working First Shift, Second Shift, Third Shift, and Weekends.
The Owensboro Police Department now accepts applications on a year round basis for the position of Police Officer Lateral Transfer. However, we will only review the application during an active hiring process for the position. If we are not actively hiring for the position of Police Officer Lateral Transfer at the time of application, it will be retained until the next hiring cycle. If you are not selected for employment during a hiring cycle, you must resubmit a new application before being eligible for the next hiring process. To be considered for a lateral transfer, applicant must currently be a full-time peace officer, be POPS certified and such certification must be portable, or POPS certifiable and such certification must be obtained without having to attend the DOCJT Basic Training Academy, and have 3 years full time law enforcement experience. Such persons are not required to participate in the competitive testing process. If considered, and/or if offered a position, prior to hire lateral transfers shall satisfactorily complete the following, but not limited to:
- Comprehensive background checks, including references from current and past employers;
- Oral interview;
- Post-offer, pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, psychological evaluation (possible), and any other necessary medical evaluations/screenings must be satisfactorily completed.
EXCELLENT PAY AND BENEFITS. LATERAL TRANSFERS may be brought in at a higher pay level than entry-level officers, depending on years of law enforcement experience (affects pay only, not service years as they apply toward retirement, etc.) In addition to base pay, may be eligible for state incentive pay through State of Kentucky.
