Reserve (Part time) Police Officer

This is a Part-Time position working First Shift, Second Shift, Third Shift, Weekends, and Holidays.

Overview

The Owensboro Police Department now accepts applications on a year round basis for the position of Reserve Police Officer.  However,  we will only review the application during an active hiring process for the position. If we are not actively hiring for the position of  Reserve Police Officer at the time of application, it will be retained until the next hiring cycle. If you are not selected for employment during a hiring cycle, you must resubmit a new application before being eligible for the next hiring process. Job Skills/Requirements

All POPS and other police requirements must be met as would be for a full time police officer. Post-offer, pre-employment requirements will be the same as when hiring lateral transfer candidates. Typically, retired Owensboro Police Department officers are considered for these positions. However, the Chief may consider offering such position(s) to any other POPS certified officers, following the same pre-employment, and post-offer, pre-employment requirements used for the hiring of lateral transfer police officers.

Additional Information/Benefits

There are no full time benefits for this position. It is a part time position. Reserve police officers will be scheduled less than 100 hr/mo on average. Scheduling is based upon the needs of the department. Because reserve officers will not be participating in the retirement system, they, unlike full time officers, (1) will not pay into retirement, and (2) will pay into social security. Furthermore, the state incentive check will not be applicable for reserve officers.

Reserve police officers are afforded disciplinary protection as provided for sworn police officers in KRS Chs. 95 and 15.520, after completion of a twelve (12) month probationary period. During the probationary period, the officers are “At-Will” status.
