Sanitation Department - Owensboro Recycles!

Due to our location and the lack of nearby reprocessing centers, recycling is expensive for Owensboro - it cost us money every month to recycle. It is also the right thing to do and as a community, we are committed to Recycling. The Sanitation Department operates a Drop-Off Recycling Center to support this commitment.
The Drop-Off Recycling Center is located at 1501 W. 7th Street.
Open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. An attendant is available to assist you on Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 7:00-12:00.

Recyclable Items
The following items are collected at the Drop-Off Recycling Center:
- Newspaper and Phonebooks
- Plastic containers with recycle numbers 1 or 2 on the bottom
- Magazines
- Cardboard
- Clear Glass (currently suspended)
- Aluminum Cans
- Steel Cans
Contamination
In order to be accepted by our recycler, material must be pure and free of contamination. That means that any trash or mixed recycling items (plastic in the glass bin for example) can cause the entire load to be unacceptable for recycling. Please do your part and put the right material in the right bin.
