Public-private partnerships have been the financial means for the development of the Greenbelt Park.
State and Federal Transportation Enhancement grants (ISTEA/ TEA-21 funds), the Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund Board, and the Owensboro Metropolitan Parks Foundation have been the primary funding resources used for land acquisition and construction of the trails.
The heirs of Roy M. Yewell, Jr. donated a total of 63 acres of land for the Horse Fork Trail and adjoining Yewell-Heritage Park and another generous landowner donated 3.5 acres for the West Owensboro Trail.
The Owensboro Medical Network served as an impetus for the project with a cash donation of $25,000 and the Owensboro Mercy Health System donated $15,000 to sponsor a fundraising event. Both of these organizations support the use of the Greenbelt Park as a way to improve your health through exercise.
Over the years, local businesses, churches, service clubs, and individuals, donated money and time to show
their support for the quality of life the Adkisson Greenbelt Park brings to the community.
